The Inclusive Banking Department is the lead provider of affordable banking services to the mass market in Ghana. The IB strategy focuses on digital innovations and the use of high-end technology in driving the financial inclusion agenda to the segment of the underbanked populace.

Our product suite targets:

  • Young Adults – Convenient and easy self-onboarding account opening for artisans in training.
  • Contract and Casual Workers – Focus areas include construction, manufacturing, recruitment agencies and hospitality.
  • Self Employed – This includes sole proprietors and individuals trading in their own names in the trade and commerce industry, food and beverage industry, personal care, fashion, transport services, mobile money services.
  • Groups and Associations – Includes market women’s associations, transport associations, beauticians’ and hairdressers’ associations and VSLAs.

Over the period, the unit has grown from a one product department i.e the flagship low KYC Smart Account to about four additional products all targeted to the underbanked segment. The other range of products includes the Smart Goal Account - an investment/savings product, the Smart Business Account, the Yello Save Account and Smart Account opening via USSD. The unit has gone a long way to make banking services easily accessible by our digital self-onboarding solution *776#.

With just a valid national ID card, and a minimum operating balance, potential customers can on-board and enjoy other exciting benefits such as access to mobile banking (including internal and external fund transfers, airtime top ups, payments) a Visa card, the branch network, nationwide ATM channels and the Agent network channel.

The unit focuses on extending convenience in banking to our customers. Customers who have been inactive over the period can also reactivate their accounts via a short code *776*77#.

New amongst our product offerings is Efie ni Efie, a digital financial literacy Instant Voice Response (IVR) platform. By dialing the phone number 0242437542 customers can access information on savings, budgeting and all our Smart products.

Our range of micro credit products are available and will be launched to our customers by the first quarter of 2023.

We continue to work closely with the Agency Network and the Strategic Partnership teams on driving the Financial Inclusion agenda throughout the country.
